Ten Things About Me

A couple weeks ago, the incredibly sweet Amberly from aMB's Good Life gave me the Liebster Award. The idea is you answer 10 questions about yourself and then pass the award on to a couple other up-and-coming bloggers. So here goes, 10 things about me:

1. What are the weirdest/most unusual things we'd find in your fridge?
Well...I live a typical single-person's life in this regard and keep next to nothing in my fridge. I usually have eggs, milk, beer and leftovers. And that's about it. Now if you looked in my pantry you'd find dried seaweed. A friend gave it to me awhile ago and I haven't had the guts to eat it yet.

2. What is your favorite childhood movie?
Like all kids I was big into the Disney flicks. The Little Mermaid was my favorite. I used to swim around pretending I was a mermaid. I was also huge on Aladdin, which in retrospect may have foretold my love of travel. That was a good period for Disney.

3. Where is the best place you've ever slept?
I don't tend to splurge on hotels when I make my own travel plans so I've stayed in some seriously shady places. There was the Patchouli Inn (not its real name) where the bed was so old it sunk in the middle, the "chalet" that had waterfalls coming through the ceiling when it rained, the beautiful (actual) chalet that was housing a colony of ants in the bathroom, or worst of all, the hotel that had gypsies living in the next room and mold climbing to the ceiling in the bathroom. As a result, I feel like a fancy lady when I get a Hampton Inn or an Omni (usually for a business trip.)

The "chalets" in Mozambique. Better known as the huts.

4. What is your favorite book (and why)?
I'm a pretty voracious reader, but I have to say Harry Potter is actually my favorite book (taken as a series.) I just think it's wonderful storytelling and the characters are so multidimensional that they feel like real people. I even get mad at them sometimes! Other favs include Wally Lamb's I Know This Much Is True and The Giver.

5. How would you describe the style in your home?
My style is somewhat masculine actually. I tend to gravitate toward cooler colors and muddy neutrals. I'm having a moment with blue so it is everywhere. More coming on this topic soon. ;)

I really need to make up my mind and get a new sofa.

6. What's your beverage of choice?
Non-alcoholic I try to stick to water. But for adult drinks, I'm a big fan of both beer and wine. Specifically I like most craft beers and red wine. I don't do the drink white wine with seafood and red wine with steak thing. I drink red wine with everything. I'm on a big Italian kick right now (Sangiovese, Primativo, etc...)

7. If you could have an all-expenses paid vacation for two anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you bring along with you?
The who is easy; my best friend Amber and I have been taking great vacations together for 10 years and are way overdue for another one. But the where is a toughie! Bali is calling my name. India would be great. Brazil? The Serengeti? Ask me again in five months and you'll probably get a totally different list of countries.

8. Would you rather float a river, layout at the beach or ski/snowboard down a mountain?
If I had to choose between the three, I would choose skiing down a mountain. I like to keep active. That said, my favorite places are the ones where I can do a little bit of everything. Like Sydney. I could hike the Blue Mountains in the morning and hang out at the beach in the afternoon. I'm sure there was a river around somewhere...

9. If you could learn to speak another language overnight, which would you choose and why?
You know, I spent three months in Italy and made it through precisely seven hours of Italian lessons. Nine years and an ocean later, I'd really like to learn Italian! I've watched Eat, Pray, Love twice in the last month (so I can drool over the shots of Bali. And Javier Bardem.) That's probably to blame for this new-found interest in learning Italian.

10. What's your favorite music of the week?
Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and I are having a bit of a love affair at the Thrift Shop. That song just cracks me up. "Aww, he got the velcro." Makes me laugh every time. It's not actually my favorite song of theirs though. That award goes to Can't Hold Us. It doesn't matter where I am, I feel the need to dance like a fool whenever I hear it.

So there you go. Hope you learned something! I'm supposed to nominate a couple other bloggers now and post 10 questions for them, but this post has been languishing on my draft page for a week while I try to find the time to complete this last step. So instead of waiting any longer, I'm just going to publish and come back with this info later. Cop out? Yes, but it's Friday so hopefully you'll forgive me.
